Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 October 2026
ScamGuard SOS helps you alert people you trust when you're in danger or being targeted by a scam. This page explains what information the app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have. In short: your contacts and personal details stay on your phone, we don't sell data, and we don't show ads.
Information that stays on your phone
- Your emergency contacts (names and phone numbers)
- Your name, your alert message and your insurance policy number, if you add one
- Your settings, such as country and nationality
These are saved in your browser's storage on your device. We don't receive them, and they are deleted if you clear the app's data or uninstall it.
Your location
With your permission, the app reads your phone's location so it can include it in your alerts and show the right emergency numbers for the country you're in.
- Country detection: your approximate coordinates are sent to BigDataCloud's reverse-geocoding service to find which country you're in. Only the coordinates are sent.
- Live map: when you send an SOS, the app creates a private live-map link. While it's active, your location, accuracy, phone battery level and the name you entered are sent to our server so the people you alerted can follow you. The link works for 24 hours or until you tap "I'm safe" or "Stop sharing". The data is deleted within 7 days after the link ends.
- The app only reads your location while it is open. It does not track you in the background.
Messages you send
SOS alerts are sent through your own SMS or WhatsApp app. You see each message before you press Send, and we never see their content.
If you choose a medical, accident, evacuation or claims option, the app opens WhatsApp with a message to Insurance assistance. It includes the details you've entered (name, policy number, country, location and live-map link). After you send it, that message is handled by Insurance assistance under their own privacy policy.
Scam checker
Messages you paste into the scam checker are analysed on your phone. They are not uploaded or stored.
Analytics
- Umami: counts page visits and button taps so we know which features are used. It doesn't use cookies or collect personal information.
- Hotjar: records anonymous usage, such as taps and scrolling, to help us improve the app's design. Fields with personal information (names, phone numbers, messages, location and the scam checker) are hidden from these recordings.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your information.
- We don't show ads.
- We don't need an account, and we don't upload your address book.
Children
ScamGuard SOS is not directed at children under 13.
Your choices and contact
You can turn off location permission in your phone's settings at any time; alerts will still send, just without your location. To stop live sharing, tap "I'm safe" or "Stop sharing". To ask about your data or request deletion, see Delete your data or message us on WhatsApp at +65 8887 7041.
Partners and procurement teams: see Security & Data.
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
